Celebrating 30 Years Today!

This morning I asked myself the question, what did I do in my 20's??

It went by in a flash for sure but I'm looking forward to the next 10 years Lord willing and all the new adventures it holds!

Celebrating by dressing up to see the ballet tonight with my wonderful hubby in the city and a

fabulous dinner party with friends and family this weekend.

Could you ever pull off a hot pink sofa in your home?

This would make a really sexy bachelorette pad! Not only do I love the bold sofa color but the sheer draperies are awesome how the skinny panels are so light and airy.
It adds a nice softness to the room.

& why not mix your wardrobe with corals, pinks and reds for Valentines day this year.

I love the heart belt- it would make a good DIY project.

I've been so wrapped up with work lately I haven't blogged since the beginning of the month!

I can't wait to get to one of my favorite months of the year February as I turn the big 30!

In honor of February I will devote more time to blogging, spending QT with my hubby, finishing my favorite book "a thousand gifts", praying new prayers, finding new merchandise for etsy and getting my home organized! Happy Thursday...

Happy New Year!

As we reflect over the last year what special moments, events, goals come to your mind?

I am a little lost for resolutions this year so I am choosing to look at the new year in a different way.

Instead of listing out the usual get fit, spend more time with family, practice patience, read more, ect.. I am going to simply make a point to give gratitude for the blessings I have & pray for new things to bring about new experiences. That doesn't mean I don't have any goals set but instead of setting up a long list for failure I hope to just enjoy the moments of 2012 and what it brings!

Today I woke up at 7:30am sort of restless in thoughts which I am sure happens to most of us. I make coffee, feed my cat, slice a grapefruit and sit down to read this book that I just started called 1000 Gifts, A Dare to Live Right Where You Are. It's finding joy & thankfulness in all things God gives you and taking on the task of writing them down daily until you get to 1000! "Learning to be content with whatever you have whether it is full stomach or empty, with plenty or little."

So my challenge is to blog my thankfulness with a simple photo, quote, or a simple note. What a great month to start being Thanksgiving is just around the corner.

What a beautiful day it was Sunday at the Antiques and Treasure show in Lake Forest.
I found some great deals and finds.

The Letter S from the 70's, I plan to spray paint and make it into a light box for our office.

A new sisal rug for $30.00 a steal for our second bedroom.

& I was also inspired by some great painting techniques from a couple of re-purposed chests.

Then my husband ended my day with amazing hamburger wraps!

I don't know about you but around my house lately we've been feeling like we need a fresh start.

Entering a new season of life!

So since I am right brained my first thoughts are to create new surroundings within our home.

*I first re-arranged the living room which I highly recommend it instantly feels new.

*Then I bought a couple new lamps on etsy for real cheap! I love that site.

*Added new sofa pillows for some reason I am obsessed with the color chartreuse again!

*& last weekend at the Chicago Botanical Antique Fair I picked up two little mirror sconces which I adore.

So now that the home is getting a fresh Spring start, next on the list is a new adventure in my career!

Highwood Pumpkin Festival

If your up for something to do this weekend, Highwood is having their Great Pumpkin Festival.

The BIG event is Saturday they are trying to set the world's record of more than 32,0000 jack'o lanterns!!

It's amazing to see in person! They light the pumpkins at 6:30pm Saturday

There is lots to do for the family- games-rides-pie eating contest at 1:00 Sat.

Costume Parade starts at 4-5:30pm

There's even a costume contest for your pets at 2:00

Come see all the festivites and see the winner of the pumpkin carving contest- winner announced at 5:30 and from the looks of it, it's going to be a hard call.

Winter Squash Soup

This is a good hot and spicy soup for a cold winter day!

If you want to lessen the spice do not put in the cayenne peppers or chipotle seasonings!

Enjoy!

Winter Squash Soup with Chipotle Peppers & Cream

Serves 8

1 Medium Butternut Squash

1 Medium Acorn Squash

4 tbsp. Olive Oil

2 Carrots Chopped

2 Ribs of Celery Chopped

1 Med. Onion Chopped

2 Garlic Cloves Minced

6 Cups of Vegetable Broth

3/4 tsp. Chipotle Seasoning or Cayenne Pepper/Red Pepper Flakes

1/2 Jalepeno Pepper- If you choose?

8 oz. Whipping Cream

Salt and Pepper

Toppings: Sour Cream- Fresh Cilantro

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Cut butternut and acorn squash in half lengthwise. Use 2 tablespoons of olive oil to coat insides of squash. Lay face down on baking sheet and bake for 30-40 minutes or until tender. Use remaining olive oil to saute carrots, celery, and onion in med. pot till tender. Add garlic, salt and pepper and chipotle seasonings for 2-3 minutes. Remove squash from oven and let cool. The squash can be cooked and cooled overnight or well in advanced?

Scoop squash and add to pot with vegetables. Add vegetable broth, bring to boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 30 minutes. When vegetables are very tender put in blender and puree the soup. Add whipping cream to the pureed soup, stir to blend and return to heat until ready to serve.

Place toppings in small bowls on table and allow guest to garnish their soup.

Here's my thoughts lately! Since I've moved my design blog "Design Roots" to Chicago Now's Blogger, which has been great and I love it! Yet I miss featuring my random inspiration and thoughts. So I think I will continue to blog here. Covering all the random inspiration that catches my eye daily, feature and promote my Design Roots blog, fashion and more! This allows me to still be creative and keep structure over at Design Roots!
I will also be working on re-naming this blog!

I start today with a little Wedding inspiration since I am 31 days away from my big day!

As we finalize all the last minute details, like programs, center pieces, cake design, favors, ect. It is overwhelming but

I have gotten the opportunity to move my blog to Chicago Now which is an online community created by Chicagoans! The various bloggers lead conversations and topics on almost anything from sports, home and garden, food, business and more.

So it's a great opportunity to gain more readership and reach a larger community!

I recently visited the store Seagrass which offers an east coast feel but it's on the North Shore!

It's a shop for home accessories or for a great gift. They carry everything from decorative seashells, furniture, affordable pillows, striped Dash and Albert rugs, and fun beachy lighting!

Mexico and Back!

I am back from Mexico and it was an awesome time with my bridesmaids. Beach, food, sun, a little night on the town in P.V.R. Great Memories but now it's back to work!

This morning is rough getting started but I'm off to downtown for a busy day of work.

I am off to Mexico Friday for my Bachelorette Party to celebrate my last 86 days as a single lady! All the girls are anxiously getting ready for the fun festivites of laying by the pool, sun and lots of laughter together!
